One of the veterans of Dota 2, who has also won the world championship, i.e. the International, shared his decision to join the Finnish military service later in 2023. Lasse "MATUMBAMAN" Urpalainen had been in the pro scene since 2014. He won TI 2017 with Team Liquid.
Talking about his retirement in the interview given to YLE Esports, MATUMBAMAN revealed that he is not going to be a full-time streamer nor coach. Instead, he'll be joining army to "defend his country for a bit".
Overall, the pro player is happy about his earnings in esports and could simply take another path in his career. For now, his earnings exceed 4.2 million USD in Dota 2. In the latest TI 11, his team, the EU Team Liquid had earned 1.7 million USD prize cash, claiming the 3rd place in his last world championship.
