Intel Extreme Masters (or IEM) is one of ESL's flagship tournament series. Hosted in cooperation with Intel, IEM has been running since 2007.

For the offline finals sixteen teams will be competing for a $250,000 prize pool at the Qudos Bank Arena.

IEM Sydney will be the biggest Counter-Strike event held in Australia to date.

Tournament Format

Group stage:

Two GSL-style groups with eight teams each. Initial matches are Best-of-One and all following are Best-of-Three. The top three placing teams from each group advance to the playoffs. Group winners are seeded directly into the semifinals. The runners-up are placed as the quarterfinals high seeds and the 3rd placed teams as the quarterfinals low seeds.

Playoffs:

Single elimination bracket. Best-of-Three quarter- and semifinals and a Best-of-Five grand finals.
