Mortal Kombat, the legendary fighting franchise has been around for three decades already, and the game is still enjoyed by millions of people across the globe, with its annual releases, improvements and fresh features. The latest of those releases is Mortal Kombat 11. It is available on consoles and PC. The game’s hero pool get updates quite regularly too. Here we’ll look at the best Mortal Kombat 11 characters, with their bone-crushing abilities.
Types of MK11 Characters
As with previous versions of the game, MK 11 characters are divided into 3 main types: Zoning Characters, Rushdown Characters and Grapplers.
If you want a fighter that is good at keeping the opponent at an arm’s length and more, then you need a character with decent zoning abilities. That could well be done with heroes that use guns, projectiles and other weaponry, such as bow and arrow, or spears. You can immediately remember 3 of such heroes: Scorpion, Night Wolf and Jade. They are pretty fast too, so make sure to choose the one suitable for your tactics.
Next, Rushdown heroes are available to close the gap between the escaping opponent and themselves. They have good dashing abilities. Some of them are Noob Saibot, Sub-Zero, Johnny Cage, Mileena etc.
Finally, Grapplers are the best heavyweight MK characters. They are slow in movement, but have stunning kicks, punches and weaponry usage. Yes, you can already guess that it is about the mighty Shao Kahn, Kotal Kahn, Sheeva, Geras and others.
Best Mortal Kombat 11 Characters List
- Cetrion;
- Jade;
- The Joker;
- Cassie Cage;
- Jax Briggs;
- Shao Kahn;
- Raiden;
- Scorpion;
- RoboCop;
- Liu Kang.
Cetrion
The debut of Cetrion in MK happened exactly with the 11th iteration of the game. She is Shinnok’s sister, and Chronica’s daughter. She represents the powers of Earth: soil, water, sun and air. Her philosophies derive mostly from her mom rather than Shinnok himself, who presents the darkness. She is peaceful, but solving problems does require more than peace. As time goes by, Cetrion reveals more of her dark side.
Her abilities evolve around water and wind animations. Cetrion is weakened by Liu Kang by the end of the story mode and sacrificed.
Jade
Jade is the devoted friend of Kitana. She is the guard for both Kitana and Shao Kahn. Jade was first introduced to MK players in Mortal Kombat 2. At that time she was a secret character and you could not pick her as a playable fighter. But after the release of Ultimate Mortal Kombat 3 players had the chance to test her might by controlling the leafy-clothed assassin.
As mentioned above, Jade has good zoning abilities and therefore is one of the Mortal Kombat 11 best characters. Jade’s abilities evolve around the spear she’s wielding within an array of her combos. She uses that also within her Fatal Blow and Fatalities. The heroine has a couple of teleport and razor throwing variations. If you are facing characters like Cetrion, they are a good choice for keeping the grappler away. Beware of her kicks too: her high heels surely deliver devastating blows.
The Joker
The DLC Character is a guest from the DC Universe. Joker made his debut in a similar fighting game, called Injustice: Gods Among Us. The Clown Prince is still funny and entertaining in the current Injustice 2 and is considered as one of the best Mortal Kombat 11 characters too. Joker throws bombs, plays with puppets, uses a golf club, a gun and a knife to scare the opponent away. He is slim and has a medium attack speed. You can use him against heroes of different types. There are always solutions and tactics to shut down enemies like Shang Tsung, Sonya, Kano. Heck, he was even used during Final Kombat Tournament by SonicFox, which earned the pro player a top 1 spot. Joker’s X-ray includes multiple knife stabs on the backs of the opponents, as well as cutting the victim's mouth, referencing his father’s brutal behavior, which left scars along his lips in red color. His fatality includes explosive cake as a gift, as well as a beacon of minigun shots at the enemy.
Cassie Cage
Cassie is one of the best MK11 characters with a huge variety of abilities. Her standing punches, pistol shots, glowing high kicks and overall aesthetics make the heroine fun to play. Cassie has been in the MK universe since the release of MK9. Do not forget that she is Johnny Cage’s daughter, and a special forces sergeant, so beware of her raw power of fists and feet.
In MK11, she is good at mid range. Her beatdown and fatal blow cause a lot of damage, leaving the opponent in the air and vulnerable to more hits. Cassie’s weakness is her HP. She loses health too fast, compared to the other warriors, but anyway, she is a well-balanced character in MK11 for now.
Jax Briggs
Jax is the steel-armed character that is considered to be a rushdown hero in MK11. Jax has not removed his iron fists yet in the series, and therefore, can hit and grab the opponents better than anyone else. His superpowers are in his hands and feet. The playable character uses his arm heat to bring more damage, increasing the overall by 10%. There are certain situations, where this Arm Heat brings up to 50% damage, when used with amplification. Players like to pick Jax to counter speedy opponents, as Jax himself is fast in arms and leg movement. His Fatal Blow and Fatalities are spectacular, with the full strength of his upper body unleashed.
Shao Kahn
Shao Kahn is back in MK11 as a playable character, and he comes to discover that the Outer World ruler now is Kotal Kahn. The fight between these two gigantic creatures does not end in Shao’s success. In the end, Kitana becomes the ruler of the Outer World.
Shao Kahn is one of the grapplers of MK11. As always, he uses his hammer to blow the heads of the opponents, as well as a shoulder dash to stun them for a second. Shao Kahn was originally a hero similar to Baraka, before becoming the main antagonist of both movie and videogame franchises of MK. Since console times, Kahn has been an overpowered villain and gave nearly no chance to defeat him. But now his superpowers are moderate and well-balanced.
Raiden
As Shao Kahn presents the Outer World in the MK universe, Raiden presents the Earth. He is the Earth Protector that tries to stop the evil Kahn and his allies. Raiden is wise, fast, energetic, has plenty of combos working well with his fatal blows. The teleport and electro-chains make him a decent pick against any hero. Raiden’s wisdom and skills are passed to Liu Kang, who is the main protagonist of the franchise. Raiden appears with the same hat and robe and bright white eyes, as he did in the previous versions of the game. He is one of the few that did not meet alterations from title to title.
Scorpion
One of the most iconic MK 11 characters of all time is Scorpion. He has been around since the first MK and his story still continues after so many iterations of the game. He is still the same overpowered hero with fast attacks and teleportation skill set, as well as his iconic chained arrow heads. He uses fire blasts, swords and other stuff to keep the enemy stunned until he finishes his combos. He has multiple brutalities, including Spine Ripper, Stinger, Clean Cut, Soul Burn, Demon’s Blood, Beheaded and others.
RoboCop
One of the Mortal Kombat best DLC characters is RoboCop. His name is Alex James Murphy. The hero comes with the Aftermath Expansion and can be picked from the game's Arcade. His appearance is unchanged, as RoboCop gives some cosmic vibes with his outfit to the MK environments. Many think that it has come to replace characters like Cyrax and Sector.
RoboCop fights with his arms, legs, pistol and other police utilities. RoboCop is best used in mid-range distances, but he has some special moves for up-close fights too.
Liu Kang
Last in our list of the best characters in Mortal Kombat is the main protagonist. Liu Kang is an undeniable part of the beautiful ending scenes of the movies. He is also found in the original comic book series. But throughout his career Kang only managed to be the Grand Champion of the bloody tournament twice. The third one was never meant to happen, as the invasion of Earthrealm happened. The only time Liu was not a playable character was his appearance in the MK: Deadly Alliance. The reason is that he was killed in the earliest stages of the story mode. His signature complex movement is the bicycle kick. Other skill moves in MK 11 include: Insert Koin, Fly By, The Chosen One, Scorching Presence, Toasty, etc.
