Forza Horizon 6 Series 2 Update Adds QoL, AI Tweaks, and Festival Changes

In the ongoing sprint of live-service updates, Playground Games has rolled out the Forza Horizon 6 Series 2 update—bringing a batch of quality-of-life improvements alongside gameplay and stability changes. The timing lands just before Series 2’s Horizon Decades Festival Playlist goes live, with new ways to earn progress and several fixes aimed at smoothing out day-to-day driving and progression.

Series 2 arrives ahead of Horizon Decades Festival Playlist

Playground Games has released the Series 2 update for Forza Horizon 6, positioning it as a major step forward for the game’s second season. The update includes adjustments to the game’s difficulty balancing and continued work on the Drivatar AI—specifically behavior around the start of races.

On the Festival Playlist side, Season 2 changes how Daily Challenges work. Players can no longer complete Daily Challenges ahead of when they are active, meaning planning ahead is restricted and players will need to wait for the challenges to begin. The Series 2 rollout also coincides with the upcoming Festival Playlist content called Horizon Decades, which introduces an all-new Festival Playlist for players to take part in.

Patch notes: stability, progression fixes, and leaderboard accuracy

The Series 2 update includes performance and stability improvements, including a fix for an issue where launching the game after running Benchmark Mode could take longer than expected. Audio performance was also improved on lower-specification devices.

Several progression and tracking issues were addressed. These include fixes for incorrect badge progress tied to the Screechy Clean Badge, issues where leaderboards could show the wrong drivetrain, and cases where Convoy leaderboard times may not display consistently for all players during Drag Meets and Time Attack Circuits.

Daily and seasonal progression eligibility was also tightened. The update fixes cases where some Daily Challenges and a Seasonal Job could be completed early, missing completion labels on Weekly Challenges from a previous season, and instances where certain Daily Challenges across seasons failed to unlock for some players. Developer notes accompanying the update state that Daily Challenge points from Series 1 will be retroactively rewarded for each season a player participated in, but players must visit Series 1 in their Playlist History to claim those retroactive points.

Horizon Play progression received attention as well: adjustments to the XP required between level 26 and level 100 are intended to reduce the time needed to earn the “Maxed Out” achievement. Developer notes indicate that players already at level 25 and above will jump significantly in level and unlock new badges, and players at level 32 will jump to level 100, unlocking badges and the achievement.

Drag Tires physics change may reshape cornering meta and leaderboards

One of the most consequential gameplay changes in the Series 2 update targets Drag Tires. Playground Games adjusted Drag Tire physics to better match expected behavior, after observing that Drag Tires were reducing Performance Index (PI) significantly while still providing enough lateral grip to function effectively outside of drag racing.

The developer notes clarify that the update is designed so Drag Tires are no longer the optimal tire choice for event types beyond drag racing. Importantly, the PI cost of Drag Tires is retained—so existing tunes won’t change their PI total (for example, a tune at A 700 remains A 700)—but cornering performance will be reduced.

Because of this, Playground Games expects many leaderboard entries to be removed as it identifies and removes lap times set with Drag Tires prior to the patch. The studio also emphasizes that the change only affects cornering performance; Drag times and Drag leaderboards are expected to remain unaffected.

Beyond tires, the update includes additional quality-of-life improvements such as a Roads Driven percentage in the Region Overview, fixes for road discovery inconsistencies between maps, and various graphical fixes across loading transitions, Photo Mode lighting, and rain particle behavior on PC.

Key points

  • Series 2 update adds Festival Playlist and Drivatar start-of-race adjustments ahead of Horizon Decades.
  • Daily Challenges can’t be completed early in Season 2, and Series 1 Daily Challenge points can be claimed retroactively.
  • Multiple leaderboard and progression tracking issues were fixed across solo and Convoy modes.
  • Drag Tires were rebalanced to curb cornering effectiveness outside drag racing, with leaderboard cleanup expected.

Expert View

The Series 2 rollout signals Playground Games is leaning hard into live tuning—especially around AI behavior and progression systems—while also addressing competitive integrity through leaderboard corrections. The Drag Tires rebalance, in particular, suggests the franchise is willing to disrupt established tuning habits to keep tire roles aligned with event intent, which can materially affect how players approach both open-world driving and leaderboard-focused runs.
