Physint is not a new Metal Gear Solid entry. Konami still owns the Metal Gear Solid intellectual property, while the upcoming game is being developed by Kojima’s independent studio. Physint was initially revealed as a PlayStation-published game, but PlayStation later exited the project. A Bloomberg report attributed the change to missed deadlines, projected cost overruns, and sales of the Death Stranding series falling short of PlayStation’s revenue expectations. Xbox was subsequently identified as the new publisher, and Kojima discussed the update during Xbox’s Tokyo Game Show presentation.
