Nintendo’s Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct delivered the first substantial look at The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time on Switch 2, while also revealing the official title of the live-action movie and a broad lineup of anniversary products and events. The remake arrives November 5, while several other announcements are aimed at fans deciding whether to buy, attend, or simply keep watching for more information.
What changed for Ocarina of Time players
Nintendo showed live gameplay of Ocarina of Time with producer Eiji Aonuma at the controls. The Switch 2 version adds free jumping, a roll that can transition into a sprint, motion-based aiming, unrestricted camera control, and a faster way to select items. The presentation visited Kakariko Village, Hyrule Field, and Hyrule Castle Town, and also showed Saria, Mido, adult Link, and dungeons including the Water Temple.
Cinematic scenes will feature full voice acting for characters other than Link. A new Threads of Time feature tracks the current objective alongside story progress and milestones. The Ocarina itself can be played by humming into the Switch 2 microphone or using an instrument connected to it. The digital edition costs $59.99, while the physical release includes a case with textured foil artwork.
Who should follow the movie, app, and anniversary plans
The live-action adaptation is officially titled The Legend of Zelda. Shigeru Miyamoto said the lack of a subtitle will make sense after seeing the film, which is described as an original story drawing from the wider series. Miyamoto and the Zelda development team are involved, and future movie updates will be shared first through the Nintendo Today app.
The Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom companion app will also support the Ocarina of Time remake. Players can review accomplishments and daily statistics, while automatic screenshot capture and new Gossip Quests add an ongoing layer of activity. A phone-based Play Ocarina mode supports free play, guided practice, and shareable QR codes for custom scores. The Ocarina of Time Quiz includes more than 2,000 multiple-choice questions, normally limited to one attempt per day unless players spend rupees for additional attempts.
What comes next for collectors and live events
A Zelda 40th Anniversary Switch 2 launches October 29 with themed console and dock designs. A matching Pro Controller and carrying case release the same day. Other announced products include a Tears of the Kingdom construct amiibo, playable and electronic Ocarinas, an Ocarina of Time Link and Epona Lego set, Hasbro’s Heroes of Hyrule figures and Electronic Master Sword, and two Zelda Huzzle editions.
The anniversary concert begins touring Tokyo next January before expanding across Japan. North America receives the tour in February, starting in Chicago, with European and Australian dates also planned. At the Nintendo Museum in Japan, limited anniversary tickets go on sale September 9. The venue will add a Zelda history board, a Master Sword photo opportunity on November 5, and the Super Family Restaurant this fall.
A Young Link/Zelda amiibo is planned for 2027. Scanning it into Ocarina of Time will unlock new masks, giving collectors another reason to wait for the later release.
