Fable’s PC Requirements Point to a Surprisingly Scalable RPG

Modern open-world RPGs increasingly ask players to process enormous worlds, persistent characters, and detailed interiors, often pushing older hardware out of the conversation. Fable may take a more flexible approach. Playground Games has revealed the game's official PC requirements, and the minimum specification pairs an RTX 2060 with an older mainstream processor despite the ambition of Albion's open world.

A Living World Behind the Minimum Specification

Fable is being built around more than a large map. Its Living Population system gives over 1,000 handcrafted NPCs individual personalities and routines. Players can befriend or antagonize these characters, employ them, and even marry them. The world also allows players to enter every building, purchase houses and businesses, and pursue the kind of personal, life-simulation activities associated with the franchise.

That makes the minimum hardware particularly notable. Playground Games is best known for technically polished environments in the Forza Horizon series, but Fable represents a different challenge: keeping an open-world role-playing game, its interiors, population systems, and relationships running across a broad range of PCs.

Fable PC Requirements Span Several Performance Targets

The entry-level target is 1080p at 30 frames per second on a Ryzen 5 2600 or Core i7-6850K, paired with an RTX 2060, RTX 5050, Radeon RX 6600, or Intel Arc A580. That configuration requires 12GB of system memory and 6GB of VRAM.

The recommended tiers rise considerably. Medium settings target either 1440p at 30 FPS or 1200p at 60 FPS with hardware such as an RTX 3060 Ti, RTX 5060, RX 6700 XT, or RX 9060 XT. Reaching 1440p at 60 FPS calls for an RTX 5070 or RTX 3080 Ti, while Ultra at 4K and 60 FPS requires an RTX 5080 or RTX 4080.

System memory only increases to 16GB at the highest preset, although the Ultra tier requires 16GB of VRAM. Playground has not clearly explained whether these resolution targets use upscaling. Fable supports Nvidia DLSS and AMD FSR, but detailed testing will be needed to establish how much of the listed performance depends on those technologies.

The game's storage demand is less modest than its minimum GPU requirement. The PC version needs an SSD and approximately 135GB of free space. That is a substantial installation, although not unusual for a major AAA release with expansive environments and extensive world content.

The reaction to the requirements is likely to remain divided. An RTX 2060 is relatively old hardware for a major release, which suggests Fable could scale well for players who have not upgraded recently. However, the continued use of 30 FPS targets, including at the recommended level, may disappoint PC players who regard 60 FPS as the baseline. Uncertainty over native resolution also makes the specifications difficult to judge until independent benchmarks become available.
