Fallout 76 players deciding whether to return to Appalachia now have a substantial preview to follow. Bethesda’s latest Public Test Server build contains the December 2026 World Pets update and the spring 2027 Hideouts feature, with testing now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S.
What the December update adds
World Pets is scheduled for December 1, 2026. Existing C.A.M.P. pets will be able to travel through Appalachia alongside their owners, using Stay, Neutral, Attack, and Protect commands. They can fight hostile NPCs, be revived with Stimpaks when downed, and cannot enter Raids or Shelters. Pets gain experience while active and can reach level 200. Progress is tied to species rather than individual animals, so players will not need to repeat the full grind for every dog, cat, Radhog, or Deathclaw they own. Leveling improves combat performance and can unlock cosmetics, player titles, carry-capacity bonuses, and transferable passive buffs.
Who should watch the Skyline Valley changes
The December release also revisits Skyline Valley with altered terrain, new routes, extra vegetation, and weather and lighting work. Its Trading Post becomes the center for bounty hunting, where the reprogrammed Robobrain Marshal Canton offers targets involving groups such as Super Mutants, Mothman Cultists, and The Lost. Players can also begin a new collectible quest after locating a mysterious glass canister containing what appears to be a living brain specimen. For explorers, this is more than a visual pass: Bethesda is adding reasons to revisit the region and engage with its activities.
What comes with Hideouts in spring 2027
Hideouts are intended as a bridge between earlier endgame activities and Raids. Players will use Leads to access these bounty-focused encounters and choose their difficulty: Basic, Challenging, Lethal, or Marked. Lower levels are aimed at newer teams, while Lethal and Marked runs target powerful coordinated builds. Higher Leads can be crafted from lower-tier versions, while Marked Leads also require Drifter Intel. The current test includes two locations, Forever Farm in Burning Springs and Vault 63’s Immortality Sector in Skyline Valley. Enemy factions, environmental conditions, routes, and bonus objectives are designed to vary between attempts.
What players should know
- Console players can access the test through Bethesda’s official Discord, while PC users can download the PTS client through Steam.
- PTS accounts receive test pets, but the live release will only recognize pets players already own.
- Pet buffs can be unlocked through one species and equipped while using another, with two buffs active at once.
- Hideout rewards and several systems are temporary or incomplete during testing, so the PTS is best treated as a gameplay preview.

Expert View
Bethesda’s plan looks strongest for players who want repeatable reasons to roam outside the usual endgame loop. World Pets add practical progression rather than cosmetic novelty, while Hideouts could provide a useful challenge ramp before Raids. The key caveat is that both features remain in testing, and the listed PTS issues show that players should expect changes before launch.
