Final Fantasy 14 players planning their next expansion return now have a firmer timetable: Evercold has moved from late January to February 23, 2027. The extra three weeks affect the full launch, though preorders will still offer early access from February 19. Tokyo FanFest also delivered the first substantial details on Zephyr, a new ranged physical DPS Job, alongside Evercold’s raid plans and evolving combat systems.
What changed for Evercold’s launch
Producer and director Naoki Yoshida confirmed that Evercold needs an additional three weeks of development. The expansion had been targeting the latter half of January 2027, but Square Enix now plans to release it on Tuesday, February 23. Yoshida apologized for the delay during the Tokyo FanFest keynote. Preorders open worldwide on November 4, with every preorder granting early access beginning February 19. Players who preorder will also receive the Wind-up Kottr minion and Halone’s Earring, an accessory that provides bonus experience while equipped.
Who should pay attention to Zephyr
Evercold adds Zephyr alongside the previously announced Bastion. Zephyr is a ranged physical DPS built around a crossbow and a falcon-like companion known as a Nephele, which contributes damage and team support. It uses aiming gear, placing it in the same equipment group as Bard, Machinist, and Dancer. To unlock Zephyr, players must first reach level 90 with another combat Job and then pick up its quest in New Gridania. Square Enix also confirmed that Zephyr will be exclusive to the new Evolved Mode combat system.
What to watch before February
Evercold’s endgame roadmap includes two crossover raid series. Beyond the Lifestream is tied to the Final Fantasy 7 Remake series and serves as the expansion’s eight-player raid content. Ghosts of Desire, the 24-player alliance raid series, draws on Neon Genesis Evangelion. Its first chapter is scheduled for Patch 8.1, with 24-player Normal and eight-player Savage options mentioned. Giant mechs are expected to feature, but Square Enix has not yet shared more specific encounter details. More information on Evolved Mode is also still to come.

Expert View
The delay is modest, and the early-access schedule softens the wait for committed players. Zephyr’s gear compatibility and clear unlock requirement make it easy to plan for, while the raid collaborations give Evercold a strong hook. The main unknown is Evolved Mode: its final reception will depend on whether streamlined inputs retain the depth players expect from FF14’s Jobs.
