Final Fantasy VII Revelation’s PS5 Pro Graphics Modes Explained

Players planning to experience Final Fantasy VII Revelation on PS5 Pro will have several visual options to weigh up. A hands-on demo at Tokyo Game Show included Quality, Performance–Sharp, and Performance–Soft settings, while director Naoki Hamaguchi has also confirmed a separate PSSR-powered mode designed to combine 4K image quality with 60 frames per second. The exact presentation of that fourth option remains unclear, so PS5 Pro owners may want to wait for more technical details before deciding how they will play.

What changed for the PS5 Pro version

The playable build offered three visible graphics settings: Quality, Performance–Sharp, and Performance–Soft. Quality appears intended to prioritize the highest resolution, although its frame rate was not confirmed during the preview and may be locked to 30 FPS. The two performance settings are designed around 60 FPS gameplay, following the approach used for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth after its post-launch support. Performance–Sharp favors a clearer, more detailed image, while Performance–Soft, also referred to as Performance–Smooth, uses softer image quality to maintain its target frame rate.

Who benefits from each setting

PS5 Pro players will be able to choose between visual clarity, resolution, and fluidity rather than relying on a single presentation. Hamaguchi indicated that the differences can appear in areas such as character hair, environmental detail, and shading. During the roughly 25-minute first-chapter demo, the game looked impressive and maintained a consistent 60 FPS in the performance setting used, but that short session cannot confirm how every area of the final release will perform. The best option may therefore depend on whether a player values sharper detail or smoother motion more highly.

What remains unknown before launch

Hamaguchi posted during TGS that the PS5 Pro version will use PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution, or PSSR, for a mode targeting both 4K image quality and 60 FPS. He did not identify the mode by name, and it was not clearly visible in the preview settings. It may not have been enabled in that build. There is also no confirmation yet about which options will appear on the standard PS5. If Revelation follows Rebirth’s approach, the base console could receive the three conventional modes, while the PSSR option may remain exclusive to PS5 Pro. Final Fantasy VII Revelation is scheduled to launch on April 8, 2027, for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Switch 2, and PC.

Expert View

The PS5 Pro version is shaping up to offer meaningful flexibility rather than a token graphics toggle. The 60 FPS options are the safest known choice for players who prioritize responsiveness, while the PSSR mode could become the most attractive setting if it delivers its stated 4K-and-60-FPS target consistently. However, the preview was too brief to judge final performance, and several important details remain unconfirmed. Until Square Enix explains the unnamed PSSR mode and the base-PS5 lineup, cautious players should treat the current information as an early technical snapshot rather than a final specification.
