Fortnite Expands Its Sprite Collection With Seven New Gem Variants

Live-service games increasingly use rotating events and collectible systems to keep players exploring beyond the standard match objective. Fortnite is leaning into that approach this week by expanding its Sprite roster with seven Gem variants and pairing them with limited-time activities focused on discovery, upgrades, and collection progress.

Sprites Have Become a Separate Progression System

Sprites returned in Chapter 7 Season 3 as battlefield companions with passive abilities. Players can take one to an Extraction Site to add it permanently to their collection, then use Sprite Dust to summon it in future matches. A Sprite becomes more valuable as it levels up, improving both its passive power and the loot it provides.

That progression continues during matches. Eliminations and surviving Storm phases can strengthen a Sprite, giving the system its own advancement path alongside the usual pursuit of a Victory Royale. The result is a collection mechanic that rewards players for investigating the map and continuing to use their companions over time.

Seven Gem Sprites Join Fortnite's Collection

New Sprite Day on August 6 introduced seven Gem variants: Gem Water, Gem Earth, Gem Demon, Gem Duck, Gem Aura, Gem Zero Point, and Gem Grim. A Gem Llama Sprite had already arrived on July 30, bringing the Gem group to eight variants after the latest additions. Earlier indications pointed to a possible Gem Punk variant, but it does not appear to be part of the final lineup.

The Gem designs also provide a gameplay benefit rather than serving as visual alternatives alone. They reduce fall damage by 30%, which may help when players leave elevated locations, cross mountainous terrain, or take aggressive high-ground engagements. The effect is unlikely to transform ordinary matches, but it gives the variants a practical niche.

Where Players Can Find the New Variants

The new Sprites do not share identical acquisition conditions. Gem Water can appear near harbors and shores, while Gem Earth is associated with forested areas. Gem Aura favors mountainous terrain, and Gem Duck can appear inside the Mogul Vault.

Gem Demon, Gem Grim, and Gem Zero Point are connected to Sprite Chests, with Gem Zero Point also available from Relic Chests. These location and loot-source requirements could make certain variants more difficult to obtain, especially for players trying to complete the collection rather than simply finding whichever Sprite appears first.

The Event Schedule Gives Collectors More Chances

Epic Games revealed the schedule on August 2 through the official Fortnite Twitter account. Mastery Monday on August 3 increased the appearance rates of Legendary and Mythic Sprites while doubling leveling speed and Sprite Dust gains. Peely Hours followed on August 4 and 5 with boosted rates for several Sprite variants.

New Sprite Day arrived on August 6, and Gem Hours is scheduled for Saturday, August 8. That final event should give players another focused opportunity to search for the new crystalline designs and fill gaps in their collections.
