Ghost of Yōtei Adds Story Expansion and Roguelike Mode on October 1

Post-launch support has become an important part of major single-player games, giving developers room to explore characters and systems that did not fit into the original campaign. Sucker Punch is taking that approach with Ghost of Yōtei, which will receive a new story expansion, a repeatable roguelike-inspired mode, and several additional updates on October 1. The additions will also be collected in a Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition.

Two New Ways to Return to Ezo

The update's main additions are Echoes of Sekigahara and Most Wanted. Echoes of Sekigahara is a narrative expansion set within the existing Yōtei timeline, while also looking back at Atsu's past. It explores her relationship with Nagato and gives more attention to The Snake, one of the least-developed members of the Yōtei Six. The character is encountered very early in the base game, making the expansion an opportunity to add context to a figure whose role was previously limited.

Most Wanted takes the game in a different direction. Sucker Punch describes it as its own take on a roguelike format. Players accept bounties to begin runs, defeat enemies to earn perks, and unlock more characters for future attempts. That structure should give the combat and progression systems a more repeatable purpose beyond the main campaign.

Complete Edition and Upgrade Details

Ghost of Yōtei Complete Edition will bring the base game and the new single-player content together in one package. Players who already own Ghost of Yōtei can upgrade to the Complete Edition for $14.99 when the new content becomes available on October 1.

The release follows the earlier addition of Legends, a cooperative online multiplayer mode. Legends is free for owners of the base game and remains separate from the two new single-player additions. This gives Ghost of Yōtei a broader post-launch offering: cooperative play through Legends, a story-focused expansion, and a run-based mode built around repeated attempts.

More Features Arrive With the October Update

The October 1 update will also expand several existing features. Watanabe Mode is receiving new tracks, while Photo Mode is getting upgrades. Players will gain additional New Game+ cosmetics and a transmog-style option that lets them preserve one armor set's appearance while using another set's statistics.

The update will additionally introduce Beauty of Yōtei mode. Based on the available description, it is designed to showcase different environments across Ezo, the game's setting, in a presentation that resembles a screensaver.
