Premium editions have become a familiar part of major single-player releases, often pairing early access to cosmetic items with digital extras. God of War Laufey follows that model ahead of its February 16, 2027 launch, with pre-orders scheduled to begin on September 29, 2026, and a Deluxe Edition that expands the selection of themed gear.
A New Chapter in the God of War Reboot
Revealed during Sony’s June 2026 State of Play, God of War Laufey is the next mainline entry from Santa Monica Studio. It changes the perspective established by the previous two games: players take control of Laufey, the Jotnar warrior who died shortly before the events of God of War (2018).
The story sends Laufey through the Everywhen, an unfamiliar afterlife where Egyptian and Mongolian gods of war are causing destruction. That premise gives the sequel a distinct setting and protagonist while keeping it connected to the reboot’s broader mythology.
Pre-Orders Open in September
According to a PlayStation Blog announcement, pre-orders will become available on September 29, 2026, at 10 a.m. local time. Sony has not yet disclosed the prices for either the Standard or Deluxe Edition.
Anyone who pre-purchases either version before launch will receive the Last Wish Armor Set, the Phranque Golden Leaves appearance, and an in-game Resource Pack. The Last Wish set appears to share some visual similarities with Kratos’ Guiding Light armor from God of War Ragnarök, but it is not permanently locked behind the pre-order offer. The armor can also be earned through story progression, meaning the bonus provides earlier access rather than unique ownership.
The same applies to the Phranque appearance. It gives the cube-like character a different look, with Phranque voiced by Jack Quaid, and can likewise be obtained during the game. The Resource Pack has not been fully detailed, although its purpose is expected to involve early upgrade materials.
What Comes With the Digital Deluxe Edition
The Digital Deluxe Edition includes the Dark Alchemy Armor Set, Dark Alchemy Blade, Dark Alchemy Bow Scales, and Dark Alchemy Catalyst. The Catalyst is described as an artifact with a special effect, but that effect has not yet been revealed.
Buyers also receive an in-game Resource Pack, a digital mini artbook, and the official God of War Laufey digital soundtrack. Like the pre-order equipment, the Dark Alchemy items can be unlocked through story progression. As a result, the digital artbook and soundtrack are currently the only Deluxe Edition contents presented as genuinely exclusive.

God of War Laufey’s bonus structure shows Santa Monica Studio continuing the franchise’s established approach to premium editions: visual rewards provide an early advantage in customization, while progression keeps the core gear obtainable for players who skip pre-orders. That reduces the pressure to purchase immediately, but the lack of pricing and the unknown contents of both Resource Packs leave important value questions unanswered. The unusual protagonist and afterlife setting remain the clearest reasons to watch the game beyond its edition bonuses.
