Marvel Tokon Adds Phoenix Cyclops in First DLC Update

Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls players now have a clear reason to jump back in: Phoenix Cyclops has joined the roster in the game’s first DLC release, alongside paid cosmetics and a broad systems update. The patch also targets online reliability, ranked matchmaking and PC performance, making it relevant even for players who are not buying the new character.

What changed in the Phoenix Cyclops update

Phoenix Cyclops is the headline addition in the November 2 update. Rather than adding Scott Summers in his standard form, Arc System Works has built the fighter around the Phoenix Force. He retains optic-blast attacks but also uses fire-based moves and Solar Shards, a resource that enables a stronger Dark Phoenix state. That form offers a temporary power increase while draining his health, creating a risk-heavy option for players willing to trade durability for momentum. The DLC also includes Phoenix Cyclops battle music, profile items, gallery content, a lobby avatar, an arena course and mode-specific Soul additions. Access requires the character DLC, Year 1 Character & Stage Pass, Digital Deluxe Edition or Ultimate Edition.

Who benefits from the gameplay and online changes

Competitive players are likely to feel the biggest impact from revised Assist and tag mechanics. Assists now have longer cooldowns, while Member Switch carries a five-second cooldown. Players can no longer use a tag after blocking while an Assist is active, closing off a defensive escape that could disrupt block pressure. Arc System Works increased Assemble Gauge recovery to offset the reduced Assist frequency, while successful Crossover Reflect and Perfect Reflect now award more Skill Gauge. The update also improves input buffering for movement options including dashes, aerial dashes and Free Flight. On the online side, both PS5 and PC receive stability work, slowdown indicators and fixes for spectating and replay problems. Ranked adjustments make the climb from Vibranium to Master less restrictive, changing the promotion requirement from four wins in five matches to three.

What comes next for Marvel Tokon

Phoenix Cyclops begins the game’s Year 1 DLC schedule, with Arc System Works previously outlining three more fighters. Jane Foster’s Thor is planned for winter 2027, followed by Venom in spring 2027 and Jubilee in summer 2027. Players looking for cosmetics can also buy Classic and Legacy Cyclops looks, while Hulk receives a Joe Fixit outfit. These Costume Packs cost $4.99 each, include eight color options and matching avatars, and are not included with the game’s special editions. PC users also gain a Benchmark Test, which can be used before online play and as an optional matchmaking filter for players meeting the performance standard. Shader warmup is now mandatory at launch.

What players should know

  • Phoenix Cyclops is a paid DLC fighter with a Solar Shard system and a health-draining Dark Phoenix transformation.
  • Assist calls and tags are less frequent, shifting more matches toward solo neutral situations and clearer on-screen action.
  • Master rank promotion now requires three wins from five matches instead of four, while Master matchmaking has a rating-gap limit.
  • PC players can run a new benchmark and choose matchmaking restricted to other players who meet its performance threshold.
  • Previously recorded replays cannot be searched or played after installing this update.

Expert View

This is a meaningful first DLC patch because it combines a distinctive new fighter with changes that address match readability, online consistency and PC performance. The longer Assist cooldowns may divide players who enjoy constant team-based chaos, but the adjustment is supported by gauge compensation and should make high-level exchanges easier to follow. The main caution is that cosmetics are separately priced and older replay files become unusable after the update.
