Nintendo has often been an important home for Resident Evil, but the original Switch never received most of Capcom’s newest entries as native releases. That changes with Switch 2, whose stronger hardware is allowing Capcom to bring six recent games to the platform, including three editions arriving October 16.
Capcom Brings Its Modern Resident Evil Catalog to Switch 2
Capcom highlighted the expanded lineup during its September 16 Capcom Spotlight. Resident Evil Requiem launched on Switch 2 alongside Resident Evil 7 Gold Edition and Resident Evil Village Gold Edition, giving Nintendo players access to the series’ latest entries without relying on the cloud versions that appeared on the original Switch.
The October 16 additions will complete the initial wave: Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition, Resident Evil 3, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition. The incoming editions include previously released downloadable content, making the releases more substantial than basic versions of the games.
A More Suitable Fit for Nintendo’s New Hardware
The original Switch received older ports such as Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil Revelations, while several newer games were limited to PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S. Capcom also offered cloud versions of multiple Resident Evil titles, but those editions required a reliable internet connection and did not fully match the portable appeal of Nintendo’s system.
Native versions of technically demanding games such as Resident Evil Village would likely have required significant compromises on the original hardware. Switch 2 gives Capcom a stronger technical foundation, allowing the publisher to support current releases while keeping the franchise available to Nintendo’s audience.
Discounts Arrive Ahead of the October Releases
Players who preorder the three October games can receive early-adopter discounts through the eShop. Resident Evil 2 Deluxe Edition is discounted by 25%, Resident Evil 3 by 34%, and Resident Evil 4 Gold Edition by 20%. The discounts remain available through November 7.
Physical editions of Capcom’s earlier Switch 2 Resident Evil releases used Game-Key Cards. Similar physical versions are expected for the next three games in January 2027, although Capcom has not confirmed those options for North America.
Resident Evil: Code Veronica Is Next on the Horizon
Capcom’s Switch 2 support is planned to continue beyond this six-game rollout. Resident Evil: Veronica is confirmed for release on Switch 2 on the same day as its versions on other platforms. The remake does not yet have a release date, so further details may be some time away.
Fans are also waiting for information about story DLC for Resident Evil Requiem. Rumors point to a release after Resident Evil: Veronica, but Capcom has not confirmed that timing.

Expert View
This rollout signals a meaningful shift in Capcom’s Nintendo strategy. Rather than using the Switch 2 primarily for older ports or cloud editions, the publisher is treating it as a viable platform for a broad selection of modern Resident Evil games. That could give Nintendo players a stronger way to engage with the franchise and create a larger audience for future releases such as Resident Evil: Veronica.
