Two Very Different Games Join PS Plus Extra
Ball x Pit and Slitterhead were added to PlayStation Plus Extra on September 22. Their designs could hardly be more different. Ball x Pit, developed by Kenny Sun and published by Devolver Digital, combines Breakout-style block destruction with roguelike progression and bullet-hell pressure. Slitterhead, from Bokeh Game Studio, is a horror action-adventure game directed by Keiichiro Toyama, the creator of Silent Hill.
The additions give Extra subscribers both a compact, repeatable arcade-style experience and a more traditional narrative-driven horror game. That contrast also makes this update notable within a month that has already brought several different genres to the service.
How Ball x Pit Builds Its Runs
Ball x Pit centers on a vertical climb. Players launch a ball upward while breaking incoming blocks that fire projectiles toward them. Destroying those blocks fills a meter, allowing players to earn upgrades such as additional ball types and passive abilities.
A completed mission sends the player back to a town hub. Resources earned during the run can then be spent on new buildings, with each construction project providing abilities that influence later attempts. The structure gives Ball x Pit a clear loop: survive the climb, collect improvements, return to town, and begin another run with a stronger set of options.
The game also received a strong critical response after its October 2025 debut. It holds an OpenCritic Top Critic Average of 86 and a critic recommendation score of 91%, making it the better-reviewed of the two new additions by a considerable margin.
Slitterhead Brings a More Divisive Horror Experience
Slitterhead takes place in a 1990s-era Kowloon threatened by an infestation of monsters known as Slitterheads. Players control a possessed girl tasked with saving the city. The project was developed and published by Bokeh Game Studio and directed by Keiichiro Toyama.
Its critical reception has been notably cooler. Slitterhead currently has an OpenCritic Top Critic Average of 65 and a critic recommendation score of 29%. That response does not necessarily settle the question of whether the game is worth trying, particularly now that it is available through PS Plus Extra. Subscription access can lower the barrier for players who are curious about an ambitious but divisive horror title.
A Busy Month Still Has More PS Plus Content Ahead
September's broader update has already included RuneScape: Dragonwilds, WWE 2K26, and Date Everything! in Extra, while Premium recently received Metro Redux and Mega Man X Command Mission. Another five games are scheduled to arrive on the subscription service before the month ends, with Ball x Pit and Slitterhead accounting for two of those additions.
For Extra subscribers, the latest update strengthens the service's variety rather than targeting one particular audience. Ball x Pit is positioned to appeal to players who enjoy short, upgrade-driven runs, while Slitterhead offers a darker, more story-focused alternative.
