Subscription libraries are increasingly competing on cadence as much as headline releases, and PlayStation is continuing its newer staggered approach for PS Plus. The service’s second catalog update of October 2026 brings a major first-party adventure, a new Mafia entry, and an indie looter shooter to PS Plus Extra and Premium, giving the month’s lineup a notably broad mix of games.
October’s second PS Plus wave is now live
Horizon Forbidden West, Mafia: The Old Country, and Mycopunk joined the PS Plus catalog on October 20. Availability began at different local times worldwide, with access appearing at around 10 a.m. ET for subscribers on the U.S. East Coast. The lineup is identical across regions despite the timing differences. Together, the three additions span a returning AAA Sony release, a newer AA crime game, and an indie shooter arriving at a key moment in its release cycle.
Horizon Forbidden West returns to the catalog
Horizon Forbidden West is the only returning game in this wave. It previously entered PS Plus Extra and Premium in February 2023, shortly after its first anniversary, before leaving the service in September 2024. Its return puts one of Sony’s best-selling first-party games back in front of subscribers on both PS4 and PS5. For players who missed Aloy’s previous catalog run, this is another opportunity to play the sequel through the subscription library rather than buying it separately.
Mafia and Mycopunk add very different reasons to subscribe
Mafia: The Old Country is available on PS5 and gives the Mafia series a full-circle moment on PS Plus. Every Mafia game has now been represented on the service in some form, though not always through its original version. Mafia 3 appeared as a monthly game in August 2018, while Mafia: Definitive Edition and Mafia 2: Definitive Edition later reached the catalog. Mycopunk, also on PS5, joins on the same day it exits early access, positioning it as the smaller-scale co-op focused alternative in this three-game drop.
More October content remains on the schedule
Sony moved away from its former model of one large monthly catalog update in June 2026. Since then, Extra and Premium releases have arrived in smaller batches, bringing additions roughly weekly on average. October began with The Midnight Walk joining on October 15, and further drops are still planned before the month ends. Separately, October’s Essential selection—F1 25, Earth Defense Force: World Brothers 2, and Hunt: Showdown 1896—can be claimed by subscribers across all tiers until November 2.

Expert View
This update shows why Sony’s smaller, more frequent catalog batches can be effective: each drop can serve different audiences without relying on one genre or one budget tier. Horizon Forbidden West supplies recognizable first-party value, Mafia: The Old Country strengthens a franchise legacy on the service, and Mycopunk gives curious multiplayer players a timely entry point after early access. The format also keeps PS Plus visible throughout the month, rather than concentrating attention on a single large update.
