Shelldiver is available across three Xbox Game Pass tiers: Ultimate, Premium, and PC Game Pass. The launch was formally included in Xbox Game Pass’s August 2026 Wave 2 announcement, even though the game arrived at the beginning of September. Microsoft had passed its usual 9 a.m. ET window for a September 1 first-wave announcement, so Shelldiver was likely the only new Game Pass development scheduled for that day.
Who should play Shelldiver
Shelldiver comes from indie developer Gagonfe and centers on an elderly turtle who dives for jellyfish. Players sell what they collect and use the proceeds to buy improved equipment and other upgrades, making progression the main appeal.
The colorful incremental adventure has a premise that may remind some players of Dave the Diver, particularly through its combination of diving, collection, and money-based progression. That comparison is only thematic, however; Shelldiver remains its own smaller-scale game and should appeal most to subscribers looking for a relaxed upgrade-driven experience rather than a large action release.
What comes next in September 2026
Xbox Game Pass has already entered the month with more than half a dozen confirmed catalog updates. Seven are completely new to the service, while Moonlighter 2: The Endless Vault and Dice a Million represent expanded releases connected to upcoming console versions.

The September 2026 Wave 1 announcement had not appeared by September 1. September 2 is therefore the next likely announcement opportunity, and it is also the date Moonlighter 2 is expected to leave early access and launch its Series X/S version through the Xbox Game Pass Ultimate library.
