Late-game difficulty spikes can define how players remember a survival horror game, particularly when a confusing puzzle and a powerful enemy arrive at the same time. Silent Hill: Townfall has now addressed both of those pressure points with Patch 1.4.0, giving players more information for its Remote Systems Control puzzle and making The Weight less punishing on lower difficulties.
A clearer route through the Remote Systems Control puzzle
The Remote Systems Control sequence asks players to operate a console containing buttons marked with symbols and numbers. Its original presentation offered little direct guidance in the surrounding area, making the solution difficult to interpret even for players who understood the underlying task.
Patch 1.4.0 adds a collectible manual for the console. Players can scan the manual and keep it open as a quick reference while interacting with the system, turning the puzzle into a more readable challenge rather than a test of memory or trial and error. The same update also changes the pipe layout for the Aux Line puzzle to improve its clarity.
The Weight is less oppressive on Story and Normal
The puzzle was not the only late-game obstacle receiving attention. The Weight’s grab attack no longer causes instant death on Story Mode or Normal difficulty; it now deals heavy damage instead. That change gives players a chance to recover from an encounter that previously could end an attempt immediately.
The enemy’s behavior has also been adjusted around objectives. The Weight should spend less time waiting near the player’s destination, search the same area less often, and track the player less aggressively. These changes do not remove the threat, but they are designed to reduce situations where progress is stalled by repeated searches or excessive pursuit.
Broader combat, progression, and performance fixes
Patch 1.4.0 makes several additional enemy AI changes. Enemies are now less responsive to running footsteps, gunfire, and the sound of the player entering a hiding space. They counterattack less frequently after being hit in melee combat, and players receive more time to react after escaping a grapple. Standard enemies also cannot attempt a grapple while the player is actively blocking with a melee weapon, although The Weight remains an exception.
The patch fixes a progression issue in Part 5 where glass could prevent entry into the CEG Tower, along with several out-of-bounds areas that could disrupt the game sequence. It also corrects duplicated Projector Slide names, restores missing AZERTY keyboard bindings, makes the Letterbox option visible on ultrawide monitors, improves frame pacing, and further reduces streaming stutter.

- Enemy hearing, grapples, counterattacks, and tracking have been adjusted across the game.
- Progression blockers, out-of-bounds exploits, input issues, and streaming stutter have received fixes.
Expert View
This update suggests that Screen Burn is responding to a specific friction point rather than simply lowering the game’s overall difficulty. The added reference material preserves the Remote Systems Control puzzle while making its logic easier to follow, and the changes to The Weight address frustration caused by repeated pressure near objectives. Players who still want a harsher experience can choose a higher difficulty, while others now have a fairer path through the endgame. For the Silent Hill franchise, that balance matters: experimentation with perspective and structure works best when technical issues and unclear progression do not overshadow the atmosphere.
