Crossovers are a major part of modern tabletop gaming culture, and Magic: The Gathering is leaning into that trend again. Later this month, Stardew Valley will enter MTG via a limited Secret Lair drop—complete with a brand-new card and a themed set of cards reflecting life in Pelican Town.
A new Secret Lair themed around life in Pelican Town
Wizards of the Coast announced the Stardew Valley Secret Lair during a MagicCon: Amsterdam panel, presenting the drop as part of the Superdrop of the Moonlight Jellies. The three Secret Lair x Stardew Valley releases are designed to spotlight different sides of the farming sim experience—ranging from cultivating crops and building relationships to pushing through mines and more.
Alongside the themed releases, the collaboration introduces a new Magic: The Gathering card simply titled “Stardew Valley.” Its artwork is credited to Stardew Valley creator ConcernedApe, and it draws inspiration from the game’s daily rhythm of food, favors, and finding the right gift at the right time. The press materials also position the other Stardew Valley-themed drops as tributes to familiar moments in the valley.
What’s inside: three themed drops and a brand-new card
The Stardew Valley Secret Lair content is split across three sets, each with its own theme and card lineup.
In “Welcome to Stardew Valley,” players can find the new “Stardew Valley” card, plus items and characters adapted for MTG. The set also includes “Mermaid’s Pendant” as a stand-in name for Wedding Rings, “Pierre’s Truce” as a renamed Dawn’s Truce, Swords to Plowshares, Rites of Flourishing, and a set of cards featuring Kynaois and Tiro of Meletis as “The Welcoming Committee.” It also features Sol Ring and a Food Token.
“Life in Pelican Town” focuses on more established valley locations and staples, including Crop Rotation, “Community Center” as Fountainport, “Pelican Town” as Homeward Path, “Tower of Rasmodius” as Command Tower, and “Valley Farmstead” as Yavimaya, Cradle of Growth.
“A Flicker in the Deep” shifts downward into the darker mystery of Stardew Valley’s mines and underground. The lineup includes “Royal Serpent” as Atsushi, Blazing Sky, “Big Slime” as Miotic Slime, Arcane Signet, “Galaxy Sword” as Sword of Forge and Frontier, Treasure Vault, and both Ooze and Treasure tokens.

Expert View
This Stardew Valley Secret Lair signals how far MTG’s crossover strategy has evolved: instead of just borrowing aesthetics, Wizards is building distinct thematic card groupings that mirror different gameplay moods—cozy valley routines above ground and riskier exploration below. For the competitive community, Secret Lair products are usually more about collecting and casual play than tournament meta shifts, but the move still matters: it reinforces Magic’s ability to pull in fans from outside tabletop who may then stick around for future crossovers. Expect more “life-sim meets collectible card” partnerships to follow as the market rewards recognizable IP with clear, fan-friendly themes.
