Nintendo Switch 2 has become a more credible destination for major third-party releases, with demanding games increasingly appearing on the platform. That makes Bethesda's rumored Starfield port especially notable: according to multiple insiders, the project may have run into enough development trouble to be shelved or canceled before Bethesda ever announced it.
A rumored port with no official reveal
Reports connecting Starfield to Switch 2 have circulated since August 2025, and speculation intensified shortly before the game's PlayStation 5 release. Bethesda, however, has never formally confirmed that a Nintendo version exists. Insider NateTheHate has now indicated that the reported port encountered several obstacles and may have been put aside. The insider also suggested a full cancellation would not be surprising. Shinobi602 separately claimed the project had suffered internal delays and could ultimately fail to launch.
Why Starfield could be a difficult fit
Switch 2 is considerably stronger than the original Switch and has attracted ports once thought unrealistic for Nintendo hardware. Cyberpunk 2077, Resident Evil Requiem and Final Fantasy 7 Remake have all been cited as examples of the machine's improved third-party potential. Even so, bringing a large, visually intensive open-world RPG to new hardware remains a major technical undertaking. If the reports are accurate, Starfield's performance or production requirements may have made a viable Switch 2 release difficult to complete.
Bethesda still has a presence on Nintendo's platform
The alleged setback would not mean Bethesda is abandoning Switch 2 support. The publisher has already brought The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle to the system, while Fallout 4 is also described as arriving on the console. Bethesda's wider pipeline includes The Elder Scrolls 6, remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas, plus a new Fallout project from Obsidian Entertainment. It remains unknown which, if any, of those games will receive Switch 2 versions.

Expert View
This report is less a verdict on Switch 2's capabilities than a reminder that powerful hardware does not guarantee every large-scale port is commercially or technically practical. For Bethesda, Starfield appears to face softer momentum than its other flagship series, while The Elder Scrolls and Fallout have clearer long-term value and established audiences. Until Bethesda comments directly, fans should treat the cancellation claim as credible but unconfirmed industry reporting.
