As PlayStation continues expanding its retro catalog, access to older games increasingly depends on licensing and curated re-releases. That reality has become clear again in late September 2026, as three classic Toy Story games disappeared from the PlayStation Store and PlayStation Plus Premium. Two of the removed titles are scheduled to return in updated form, but the PSP version of Toy Story 3 has no direct replacement announced.
Three Toy Story Games Have Left PlayStation's Catalog
The delisted games are Buzz Lightyear of Star Command and Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue on PS1, plus the PSP version of Toy Story 3. They are no longer available for new purchases on PlayStation consoles, and PS Plus Premium subscribers can no longer access them through the Classics catalog.
The removals happened in stages. Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 for PSP left the Premium lineup during the regular catalog rotation on September 15. Buzz Lightyear of Star Command remained available for longer before disappearing on or around September 29. Players who had only downloaded the games through the service cannot continue accessing them simply because the files remain installed.
Two PS1 Games Are Returning in a New Collection
The timing aligns with two Toy Story releases planned for October 15. Atari and Digital Eclipse are preparing Toy Story: Retro Roundup, a modernized collection that includes updated versions of Toy Story 2 and Buzz Lightyear of Star Command. The bundle will also contain four other games, including Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue, Toy Story Racer, and A Bug's Life.
Sony and Disney have not formally stated that the PlayStation Store removals were made to clear the way for the collection. However, the overlap between the delistings and the new release makes a broader catalog transition a reasonable explanation. Players seeking the two PS1 classics will therefore have another way to access them shortly.
The PSP Version of Toy Story 3 Has No Like-for-Like Replacement
Toy Story 3 is the complicated case. The game removed from PS Plus Premium is the PSP adaptation developed by Asobo Studio. Toy Story 3 Complete Edition, which launches on the same day as Retro Roundup, is based on the separate home-console version instead.
The Complete Edition includes the larger Toy Box sandbox mode, alongside the story campaign and local multiplayer. Those features distinguish it from the PSP release, so the newer version should not be treated as a replacement for players specifically looking for the handheld game. Only customers who purchased the PSP version before its delisting will be able to redownload and play it going forward.
