Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest Launches on PC and Consoles

Licensed games increasingly give established entertainment franchises a route into new communities, from long-running fans to players discovering a world through interactive stories. Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest is the latest example, arriving as the book series' first standalone game for PC and consoles after the franchise previously entered gaming through Roblox.

A new game for a long-running fantasy series

Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest released on October 23, giving the 2003-born fantasy property a dedicated release beyond Roblox. The game comes from Peru-based developer Bamtan Games and publisher Trailmark Games. It follows Warrior Cats: Ultimate Edition, the officially licensed Roblox experience released in 2021, while a separate Roblox project, Warrior Cats: Lake Territory, remains in private beta. The franchise itself has grown to more than 100 books over two decades, creating a substantial audience for a larger-scale adaptation.

Four clans, original campaigns and tactical battles

Clans of the Forest is built as an action RPG set around the Lake Territories. Players choose from ThunderClan, RiverClan, ShadowClan, or WindClan, then hunt, collect materials, take on quests, and protect their selected clan. Each clan has its own original campaign written for the game by Erin Hunter. Exploration is paired with light platforming and environmental puzzles, while combat shifts into turn-based encounters. Parties can include up to three cats, and players can unlock from a pool of 75 moves between battles. Character creation is also a major feature, with the game promoting millions of possible Warrior Cat customization combinations.

Multiplayer adds a social layer rather than a live-service focus

The online element is centered on Skirmish Mode, which uses asynchronous battles rather than requiring two opponents to be connected at once. Players can challenge one another on their own schedules, a format that better suits a story-led RPG than a constantly active competitive game. Friends can also visit each other's camps, create items, and leave resources for later collection. That design positions multiplayer as a complementary social and competitive feature, not the core of the experience. Trailmark had not disclosed launch sales figures, but the publisher said the game passed 200,000 Steam wishlists one day before release.

Expert View

The launch shows how a major publishing franchise can pursue a broader games strategy without abandoning its existing Roblox audience. Its asynchronous multiplayer approach is unlikely to create a traditional esports circuit, but it could support recurring community engagement through friendly competition, sharing, customization, and player-created social activity. With strong pre-launch wishlist interest, the key next step will be whether Trailmark and Bamtan can turn that audience into sustained participation across the game's single-player campaigns and lighter online systems.
