Call of Duty: Warzone is approaching a major platform split. Support for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions is scheduled to end when Modern Warfare 4 Season 1 arrives shortly after the new game launches on October 23. What is changing for Warzone players?
Warzone's next major integration will bring Modern Warfare 4 content into the battle royale, but it will also close the door on the PS4 and Xbox One versions. Activision announced the platform change alongside Modern Warfare 4 in May.
The transition has already begun. Warzone was removed from the PS4 and Xbox One digital stores on June 4, although players who previously owned the game could continue accessing it. The in-game store then closed on those platforms on June 25. Free Battle Pass rewards remained available, but the last-generation editions are no longer receiving the same purchasing options as before.
The final cutoff is tied to Season 1, which Activision says will begin shortly after Modern Warfare 4 launches on October 23. That seasonal arrival will officially end support for Warzone on PS4 and Xbox One.
Who needs to upgrade before the cutoff?
Anyone still playing on PS4 or Xbox One should plan around the current-generation versions if they want to keep their Warzone progress. Moving to a PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X/S allows account progression to carry over, provided the player signs in with the same Activision account.
Some content bought with CoD Points will also transfer. Remaining CoD Points have a stricter limitation: they carry over only when the upgrade stays within the same console family. Points held on a PS4 account can move to PS5, for example, but not to Xbox Series X/S. Players considering a platform switch should therefore check their account and spending plans before moving.
What should players expect after Modern Warfare 4 arrives?
The Modern Warfare 4 integration is expected to reshape Warzone rather than simply add another batch of equipment. A full reset is anticipated, with the current arsenal replaced by Modern Warfare 4 weapons and seasonal progression wiped.
