Xbox Free Play Days Offers Six Games This Weekend

Subscription perks and limited-time trials remain a major part of the console ecosystem, giving players a low-risk way to sample games outside their usual rotation. Xbox’s latest Free Play Days lineup covers RPGs, survival action, sports, and management games, with six titles available for a short window. Crucially, half of the selection can be played by Xbox owners without a Game Pass subscription.

Two Monster Hunter Adventures Lead the Free-for-All Selection

The headline additions are Monster Hunter Stories and Monster Hunter Stories 2: Wings of Ruin, both of which are available to all Xbox players through October 25. Unlike the mainline Monster Hunter games, the Stories series is built around turn-based battles, collecting monster eggs, and raising creatures known as Monsties. Players take the role of Riders rather than traditional Hunters, assembling teams that use Power, Speed, and Technical attack types in a tactical counter system. The sequel expands on that formula with a new story involving a black-winged Rathalos and adds cooperative multiplayer.

Riders Republic Gets an Extra Day

Ubisoft’s Riders Republic is the third game open to everyone, and its trial period runs until October 26. The open-world sports game combines mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding, races, and stunt events across an environment inspired by US national parks. Its large multiplayer events make it the most naturally social game in this week’s unrestricted group, while players who prefer solo progression can also explore the map and pursue career activities.

Game Pass Members Receive Three More Options

Xbox Game Pass subscribers can access Dying Light 2: Stay Human, Let’s Build a Zoo, and Tropico 6 through October 25. Dying Light 2 brings first-person melee combat and parkour to the infected city of Villedor, where nighttime exploration becomes especially dangerous. Let’s Build a Zoo takes a lighter approach with animal-park management and DNA splicing that creates unusual hybrids. Tropico 6, meanwhile, puts players in charge of a Caribbean nation, balancing infrastructure, economics, elections, and diplomacy across several eras.

How to Claim the Trials

Players can locate the participating games directly in the Xbox Store and download them from their individual listings. Xbox console users can also navigate through the subscriptions area to find the Free Play Days promotion. The split between unrestricted games and Game Pass-only selections is worth checking before downloading: Monster Hunter Stories, Monster Hunter Stories 2, and Riders Republic do not require a subscription, while the other three titles do.

Expert View

This selection shows why Free Play Days remains a useful discovery tool for Xbox: it pairs broadly accessible trials with added value for Game Pass members. Making both Monster Hunter Stories games available to all players gives Capcom’s more approachable, turn-based branch of the franchise a strong chance to reach an audience that may not usually engage with Monster Hunter’s action-heavy mainline releases.
