Riot Games recently announced about the ranked adjustments for the new competitive year for LoL. League's producers have brought their reasons of bringing new changes. 

The most important take is the division of the competitive year into 2 splits. In the past, it was just 1. The nullification wasn't there, which resulted in less interest to keep playing ranked after the users achieved what they needed. 

According to the new rules, the first part of the Ranked year will start January and end in May, while the second will last from May to late December.

What is more, the format of the matches will be adjusted. Best-of-5s will be replaced with best-of-3s, thus giving a chance to minimize the already-stuffed competitive schedule. Besides, Riot will grant more XP, so that people could get their gifts earlier than within 1 split.
